Haunted Forest Show Policies

Show Policies

Event Description:     Now in its 27th year, The Haunted Forest is a unique Vermont tradition of walk-through theatre in the woods to celebrate Halloween. It is one of the Top Ten Autumn events in the state of Vermont (selected by The Vermont Chamber of Commerce) and multiple performances repeatedly sell out.

The Haunted Forest combines outdoor theater, special effects, and the magic of the night forest along with the mystical popularity of Halloween to delight audiences of all ages. A pair of mysterious guides lead guests through the dark foreboding forest where paths are lit by the flickering faces of over 1,000 Jack-O'-Lanterns.

Throughout their passage, visitors encounter spooky, kooky, and fantastical characters in 11 scripted scenes befitting the Halloween season. The costumes, makeup, and set design enhance the macabre mood of the forest. Every now and then, a surprise from the darkness gives folks the good-natured scare they are seeking. Production of The Haunted Forest is made possible by the hard work and dedication of over 400 volunteers!

General Info about attending The Haunted Forest:

  • Ticket times are approximate. Please arrive early and expect to wait in our reception tent.  Visitors are led through the forest in groups of 20-25.  Depending upon your arrival and the status of the groups before you, you may wait an hour or more before your group is allowed to enter the forest.
  • The show should take anywhere from 1 hour to 1 hour and fifteen minutes once you enter the Forest.
  • We recommend that children under the age of 8 years attend the matinee performance on Saturday afternoons, which is geared towards young children and is not scary. The evening performances are intended for guests age 8 and older, but guardians should use their discretion regarding their particular child. All shows are family-friendly.
  • Unfortunately, the Forest cannot be made handicapped accessible. It is an outdoor event over trails that are covered with tree roots and rocks and may be muddy.  Due to this, the trails may not be accessible to most of those who are physically challenged.
  • Dogs / Pets are not allowed on the trails at Catamount Family Center, and can not be brought to The Haunted Forest (except service pets)
  • Please make sure you dress warmly. This is an outdoor event in Vermont in late October and the weather can be quite chilly. In the event of poor weather, such as rain, the show will still go on, so please dress accordingly. You should dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes, and we strongly advise boots that help to keep you warm and dry as you walk the trails.
  • The Forest is a drug and alcohol free event.
